The Lodge at Gulf State Park, a Hilton Hotel, located inside of Gulf State Park has reopened. Once a prominent tourist destination, The Lodge at Gulf State Park temporarily closed its doors in 2004 after extensive damage caused by Hurricane Ivan. The new facility, rebuilt from the ground up, leaves a smaller footprint along our sugar sand beaches. Judging by the number of cars in the parking lot with out-of-state license plates, word has already hit the street about its reopening in November 2018.
I wish we could say it was the newly constructed, eco-friendly beach destination with a steadfast commitment to sustainable tourism that lured The Southern Rambler to its sandy door. Instead, we were there for the live music at Perch, one of the four restaurants located on the resort grounds. The experience was exhilarating!
The Perch offers some of the most spectacular views of the Gulf of Mexico. Outdoor seating, fire pits, and a menu with unique course offerings create a warm, relaxing environment. Melissa Joiner, a local songwriter, shared her favorite stories and songs while we enjoyed dinner and a stunning sunset. The setting was upscale and very intimate.
During our next visit, we are going to spend more time delving into more of what The Lodge at Gulf State Park has to offer. In the meantime, we look forward to hearing more live music at this venue. Be sure to follow The Southern Rambler on social media for updates on other discoveries at The Lodge at Gulf State Park.
